On the 30th of September, 2023, the Cairo Opera House in Cairo, Egypt, hosted a gathering that resonated with youthful energy and a strong commitment to the well-being of the nation's adolescents. The ‘National Adolescents’ Forum of Egypt’ was a collaborative effort orchestrated by the Egyptian Society for Adolescent Medicine (ESAM), in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and the Ministry of Culture. Furthermore, the event was made possible through collaboration with key stakeholders, including the National Council for Women, WHO (World Health Organization), UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund), Plan International, USAID, Pathfinders, John Snow Inc., the Population Council, and Emphnet.

The ‘National Adolescents' Forum’event served as a call to action in support of theGlobal Forum for Adolescents that took place on 11-12 October 2023, emphasizing the pressing need to bring the 20 million Egyptian adolescents into the spotlight and provide them with the support they need. These adolescents and young people are Egypt’s future, and the national forum provided them with a platform to be seen, heard, and valued.A total of 340 participants from various sectors, including government, non-governmental organizations, and youth themselves, came together to champion the cause of Adolescent Well-Being. Notably, over 100 of the participants were young people eager to contribute their voices and perspectives to the discussions. One particularly important segmentof the event was the stunning showcase of artistic talents. A total of 78 young artists from 14 different Governorates stepped into the spotlight to present their extraordinary creative expressions, underlining the depth of talent and creativity among Egypt's adolescents.

The ‘National Adolescents' Forum of Egypt’ was organized, executed, and directed by a collective of seven Egyptian adolescents who are members of the Youth Wing of ESAM. Involving these adolescentsand youth in decision-making processes at all levels was a good practice of MAYE(Meaningful adolescent and youth engagement) because this marked a significant deviation from traditional event management practices. Their active engagement in orchestrating the event was a testament to the significance of involving adolescents directly in matters that affect their lives.During the forum, various topics related to adolescent well-being were discussed, including the need to promote adolescent health, gain political support, and change public perceptions of adolescence. The forum also showcased adolescent creativity and highlighted the productive role of adolescents in community development.

One of the pivotal outcomes of this event was the declaration by the Ministry of Culture that the 30th of September would be celebrated annually as Egypt’s National Adolescents’ Forum Day. This declaration is a recognition that underscores Egypt's commitment to fulfilling the long-term needs of the nation's adolescents and youth.

The National Adolescents’ Forum of Egypt was not merely a one-day gathering but a testament to the power of collaboration . By empowering young people to be the driving force behind such initiatives, Egypt is setting an example for recognizing and nurturing the potential of its adolescent population.

Furthermore, the event served as a platform to showcase the efforts undertaken in Norway to promote well-being among its adolescents and young people.

What set this event apart was its primary emphasis on engaging students. Recognizing that young people themselves are essential stakeholders in discussions about their mental health, the event was structured to include their perspectives and insights. Their voices were the driving force behind this initiative. The event's program was a crafted blend of enlightening discussions, practical advice, and captivating panel dialogues. The key topics discussed included the impact of climate change on children's and youth's mental health, preventive measures for protecting mental health and seeking help for mental health issues. The distinguished Francis Vergunst, an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Educational Sciences (UiO), took the stage to share profound insights on the topic of "The impact of climate change on mental health and psychosocial development among children/youth."

Alexander Banik, highlighted the paramount importance of early education in the realm of adolescent mental health. He underlined how such education equips young people with the skills to forge meaningful connections, communicate effectively, and embrace openness. Mina Kharki, expressed her views, stating that adolescent mental health is a top priority for her. She emphasized that it's not just about physical safety; it encompasses emotional and social security. She stated that for young people to grow and realize their full potential, creating safe spaces where they can express themselves freely is essential.

I went to the streets of Lagos Island to inquire about what young people want and the changes they desire to see to improve their health and well-being. The mobilization of this initiative made me realize that many young people are dissatisfied with the current state of the world, but they don't know how to effect change. Many of these young people in Lagos Island are hoping for a better world though.

Lagos Island is a unique place, unlike anywhere else in the world. My parents grew up on Lagos Island, so I have a strong connection to this place. The people, the energy, the way of life – something about Lagos Island sets it apart from the rest of the world. Lagos Island is a visual delight, where old-world charm mingles seamlessly with modern architecture. The island's historic architecture speaks to its colonial past, with buildings bearing witness to centuries of change. The ornate facades of structures like the Central Mosque and the historic Cathedral Church ooze character and history. And then, juxtaposed against this, you find the sleek, contemporary skyscrapers like the Eko Tower and the Union Bank Building, which stand as a testament to Lagos's evolution into a modern metropolis.

A sight synonymous with Lagos Island is the iconic yellow Danfo buses. These minivans, painted in bright yellow and adorned with bold patterns, serve as the lifeblood of the city's public transport. The rhythmic honking, the enthusiastic conductors, and the sheer resilience of these buses are an embodiment of Lagos's spirit. Lagos Island can not be defined with mere words, it is a place with so much going on. I chose Lagos Island as the best place to mobilize for the campaign because I believe the voices of the people here are often underrepresented. Young people in Lagos Island have distinct experiences, so it was insightful to hear about the changes they wish to see in our world.

Most of the young people I spoke to expressed a desire for access to decent work, as unemployment is a serious issue in Nigeria. As of 2021, the total unemployed population in Nigeria was estimated to be around 6.3 million, an increase from the previous year when around six million people were without any form of employment. Overall, the rate of unemployment in the country has been on the rise. Many young people are losing faith in the Nigerian government due to unfulfilled promises about job creation. One of the young people I spoke with expressed concern that, after spending time in university, they might not be able to secure a job. This fear is common among young people in Nigeria, and I believe we need to continue urging the government to provide more employment opportunities for Nigerian youth.

Another significant concern raised by the youth I engaged with was the need for quality education, as the current education system in Nigeria fails to meet their needs. Nigeria's educational system faces numerous challenges, including infrastructural decay, neglect, wastage of resources, and poor conditions of service. According to a 2022 UNESCO report, the country has over 20 million out-of-school children, the highest in the world. Another 27 million children in school perform poorly. Millions of Nigerians receive subpar education, and over 60 million, or 30% of the population, are illiterate. Quality education is essential to break the cycle of poverty, and I hope that Nigeria's decision-makers prioritize ensuring that every Nigerian child and adolescent, regardless of their background, has access to quality education that will enable them to thrive in our ever-evolving world.

Additionally, I had a lot of fun and bonded with other young people over our shared experiences as young people living in Lagos Island. Dayo, a close friend of mine who is also a passionate young change-maker, and I had a great time. Listening to the views and opinions of different young people was an incredible experience for me, and I look forward to mobilizing for other youth-centered campaigns in the future.

On August 20, 2023, in Sargur, India, the "Understanding Adolescence, Empowering Teachers" workshop was held as part of the 1.8 Billion Young People for Change campaign and in the lead up to the Global Forum for Adolescents. Organized by a consortium of leading organizations, including the Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement, Indian Academy of Pediatrics Bangalore, International Pediatric Association, Karnataka Adolescent Health Academy, and Bangalore Adolescent Health Academy, this workshop brought together educators and experts to focus on Adolescent Well-Being.

The workshop, attended by 60 participants, aimed to equip teachers and administrative officials from high schools and pre-university residential colleges in rural and tribal areas of Karnataka with knowledge and skills related to adolescent health and well-being. The goal was to empower these educators to address the multifaceted challenges faced by adolescents, spanning all five domains of their well-being.

Under the guidance of adolescent health professionals, Dr. PushpalathaS, Dr.PreetiGalagali, and Dr. Shubha Badami, the sessions delved into the complexities of pubertal changes, menstrual health, body image, psychosocial well-being, emotional health, media literacy, and sexuality education for adolescents.

One of the workshop's highlights was a dedicated session designed to assist teachers in recognizing, managing, and counseling students with learning and neurodevelopmental disabilities. Two young presenters led a counseling session, facilitating an open and insightful dialogue between educators and adolescents.

Participants reported a significant improvement in both their knowledge and practical skills in addressing adolescent health issues. The youth-led counseling session was particularly well-received, emphasizing the value of peer-to-peer education.

Recognizing the need for ongoing support, an email group was formed, connecting teachers with the workshop facilitators, who are adolescent health specialists. This platform will serve as a valuable resource, providing teachers with continued guidance and access to scientific reading materials and useful links.

To ensure the sustainability of these efforts, follow-up teacher training sessions have been planned at six-month intervals. These sessions will serve as opportunities to further enhance teachers' skills and knowledge in adolescent health and well-being, reinforcing their role as champions of adolescent wellness in their schools and communities.

In an innovative move, a community radio program dedicated to the upcoming Global Forum for Adolescents was recorded. This program is set to reach over 200,000 tribal residents of Saragur, extending the knowledge and insights gained during the workshop to a broader audience and fostering a community-wide commitment to adolescent well-being.

Key figures from school management and administrative officials attended this event, signifying their dedication to understanding and addressing the unique challenges faced by adolescents. In the wake of the workshop, these officials plan to collaborate with students to revamp school policies, ensuring that all aspects of adolescent well-being are prioritized in school activities and events.

The "Understanding Adolescence, Empowering Teachers" workshop in Sargur was not just a one-time event; it was a catalyst for ongoing change. It empowered educators to navigate the intricate landscape of adolescent well-being and inspired collaborative efforts to create a more supportive, nurturing, and inclusive environment for the young minds of rural India.

The Inseparable Bonds of Wellbeing: Family, Health, and Memories? In the tapestry of life, the threads of family, health, and memories intertwine to create a masterpiece of wellbeing. The connections we forge with our loved ones, the state of our physical and mental health, and the cherished moments we collect along the way shape our overall sense of happiness and fulfillment.

This essay explores the profound significance of family and health in fostering wellbeing and celebrates the invaluable role of memories as captured in a heartfelt poem and a cherished family video.

Family serves as the bedrock of our existence, providing us with a sense of belonging, support, and love. It is within the embrace of our family that we discover our identity, cultivate lasting relationships, and find solace in times of hardship. The bonds we share with our relatives nourish our emotional wellbeing, offering a safe haven where we can freely express ourselves, be understood, and find strength.

Health is the cornerstone upon which our overall wellbeing is built. A sound body and mind are fundamental to leading a fulfilling life. Good physical health allows us to engage in activities we enjoy, pursue our passions, and maintain a sense of vitality.

Similarly, mental health is crucial in fostering emotional resilience, managing stress, and nurturing positive relationships. By prioritizing our health, we empower ourselves to fully embrace life's opportunities and navigate its challenges. Memories are the threads that weave the tapestry of our lives.

They encapsulate the precious moments we have shared with our loved ones, serving as a constant reminder of joy, laughter, and love. Memories are not confined to the past; they have the remarkable power to transport us back in time and infuse our present with warmth and nostalgia.

In revisiting our memories, we can draw strength, find solace, and celebrate the beauty of the human experience.

Mental health is the most important thing for our well-being. The song I submit is about taking care of yourself, regardless of the opinions of other people, your previous habits, or stereotypes. Realizing what you want to do, loving people who take care of you and are concerned about you helps you find your place in the world and become more confident. Through this song, I tell people that loving themselves can be the key to being mentally healthy.

The main goal is to raise awareness and emphasize the importance of the 5 well-being habits among teenagers through regional Mexican music.

As young people, we are prone to falling into bad habits, negative friendships, poor emotional management, which often leads us to neglect our physical and mental health, social skills, and education.

Our objective is to connect with young people of our age and show them the tools and the importance of maintaining a healthy and balanced life. We understand that we will inevitably face difficult moments, so it is crucial to know how to handle all situations as best as possible.

With the support of our family, institutions, friends, values, good physical, mental, and emotional health, etc., we firmly believe that positive results can be achieved. And what better way to reach all young people than through the popular regional Mexican music that resonates with our age group.

(INTRO)

My heart returns to my home

My thoughts are....

I wish I knew

(CHORUS)

I have thoughts that I want to settle (uhuh)

If they come back, I won't sleep (uhuh)

If they come back, I won't be at peace (uhooh)

If they come back, I won't sleep (huh)

I have thoughts that I want to settle

(I have thoughts that I want to settle, brother)

If they come back, I won't sleep

(I won't sleep, brother)

If they come back, I won't be at peace (uhuh)

If they come back, I won't sleep (uhooh)

(1st VERSE)

Since we were growing up, we were told to be quiet

Keep your troubles hidden in your heart

Life is like a difficult drum

But today, it was me

We were told that if you speak, you can be misunderstood by your brother

If you speak, they may say you are betraying your family

If you speak, they may accuse you of being a troublemaker

You are the hardship I have witnessed

If it's bothering me today, ah

That's when we turn to drugs (to drugs, to drugs)

Then we start to appear as rebellious youth (rebellious youth, rebellious youth)

Because I'm trying to find an outlet,

for all the things I never said to you when I wanted to!

You left me with an aunt (aunt)

And it affected my well-being

The things she did to me (to me ahh ahh huuh)

(2nd VERSE)

We all have our demons, thoughts we can't escape

They mentally consume us and lead to distress

Depression, anxiety became our enemies

Feeding on traumas that we can't erase

Let's talk to each other

Let's promote mental health

Let's unite and put an end to suicides

When I'm alone, I feel burdened

I'm really tired of not being in control of myself

Of my thoughts, my well-being, above everything I love

I just need my mental health

Yeah!

Age: 23 Country: Democratic Republic of the Congo

In my song, I talk about acceptance as well-being. It is the minimum that each of us can give, which remains engraved in the mind. A young child needs acceptance to thrive. We want many things at once, yet the satisfaction of one need creates another, especially when it comes to material things.

"I accept who I am, accept who I am; Do it for my well-being."

Lyrics:

Je ne serai ce que tu est ;

Nos sensations sont différentes ;

Je suis fière et satisfait ce que je Mène comme vie;

English:

Nothing is better and more satisfying

Than a simple beautiful smile just because we are happy.

All of this for oneself, for one's well-being, to remain at the center of one's own happiness.

I don't have what you have,

I won't be what you are;

I am proud of who I am.

We have one common trait,

We are all human.

Let's be proud of what life offers us.

We are all different,

Our sensations are different;

I accept who I am, I am proud of who I am.

Regardless of my physical appearance or health condition,

My well-being is worth more than anything I could have from you.

I am proud and satisfied with the life I lead;

Waking up every morning, surrounded by people who love me.

Who understand who I am, who understand what I feel, and who accept me as I am.

Artist: Dkarlos

Age: 20 Country: Colombia

Si me quiero expresar nadie me silencia

English:

Well-being is being at ease with your mind,

It's being on a Friday with your people,

Like a Superstar in a powerful rap,

It's about self-improvement and living in the present.

In rap, I demonstrate autonomy and resilience,

If I want to express myself, no one silences me,

I have a silencer for a reload of conscience,

If you relate to this, it's not a coincidence.

The foundation of my autonomy is my self-identity,

My origin is the words, a verbal native,

Autonomy is making the decision to rap,

And no matter what they say, acting accordingly.

Well-being is being able to express myself through song,

And what does it matter? I'm happy when I rhyme.

Contributing to society becomes something vital,

You are unique, and remember, you have something to offer,

As a lyricist, you must communicate it,

Find value in yourself by helping others.

Don't be afraid to express what's in your heart,

Listen to this song and connect with your passion,

I'm hiring lyrics part-time,

To create employability in a song.

Don't lose your way, invest in your education,

Never see studying as an obligation,

But as an opportunity to reflect in the beautiful world of learning.

Well-being is being able to express myself through song,

And what does it matter? I'm happy when I rhyme.

Free to practice my beliefs,

Intimacy with my rap and the lyrics,

Without discriminating, freedom of conscience,

And personal growth as a consequence.

These are daily sound sequences,

Only good dietary habits,

I feed on rap and dictionaries,

My head filled with encyclopedias and glossaries.

Health depends on good nutrition,

The future depends on a good education,

Development is living without discrimination,

Well-being is listening to the rap generation.

Well-being is being able to express myself through song,

And what does it matter? I'm happy when I rhyme.

I composed Mermaid's Dreams when I had 15 years old. It is associated with positive emotions, a sense of resilience and the ability to cope with life's challenges. Dreaming like a Mermaid offers an escape to the reality and have the power to transport us to fantastical realms full of joy, peace and happiness.
