About the event

According to the Rwanda Demographic Health Survey (RDHS) report from 2019-2020, 5% of female adolescents and 10% of male adolescents engage in sexual activity before they turn 15 years old. Pregnancy among school-aged girls (10–18 years) is also a concern. We are committed to providing accurate sexual and reproductive health education for adolescents to reinforce such information better. Being aware of their sexual reproductive health and taking preventive measures against unwanted pregnancies will reduce the risks of school dropout, unsafe abortion, and pregnancy-related complications such as fistula, preeclampsia, unsafe abortions, stillbirth, and preterm births. It also protects the mother's health, as a teenager's internal organs are not yet fully developed. According to the National Family Planning and Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (FP/ASRH) Strategic Plan (2018-2024), continuing to improve access to information and counseling on ASRH through mass media campaigns, schools, and other avenues aligns with best practices to reduce self-reported risky sexual behaviors.
