It is a global creative arts competition designed for 10 – 24-year-olds to answer the question “What does well-being mean to you?” through art pieces, songs and short film / spoken word / poetry.
In addition to awesome cash prizes, top entries will be showcased at the Global Forum for Adolescents ’23 and at the United Nations General Assembly as part of the 1.8 Billion Young People for Change Campaign.

Adolescent Well-being is defined in the following way: Adolescents have the support, confidence, and resources to thrive in contexts of secure and healthy relationships, realizing their full potential and rights (Adolescent Well-being Framework, 2020)
The World Health Organization Defines “Well-being” in the following way:

What does it mean to YOU to be comfortable, happy or healthy? (What does this look like in your everyday life?) Consider the dimensions of emotional, social, intellectual, and physical well-being and how they intersect in your life.
How can comfort, happiness and health be achieved?
What are the areas in which you are comfortable, happy or healthy?
How do you prioritise your well-being? (What practices or habits contribute to your overall comfort, happiness, and health?) Explore strategies and actions that can help you achieve and maintain well-being.
What are the factors that affect how comfortable, happy and healthy you are? Consider the external factors that influence your well-being, e.g. relationships, environment, access to resources, and societal expectations.
Why is being comfortable, happy and healthy important as a young person? How does it contribute to their overall well-being, personal growth, academic success, and positive social interactions during the crucial phase of adolescence?

Now that you understand what well-being is and more importantly what it means to you…
It’s time to create your entry!

STEP 1
Understand the judging criteria!
You will be judged on skill, creativity and messaging – so, always have this at the back of your mind when creating your piece!
Skill – make sure your you showcase your talent to the fullest!
Creativity – try and do the unexpected! Think outside the box!
Messaging – Your piece should ANSWER the question “What does well-being mean to you?”.
When you submit your entry, you will also be asked to describe your entry in around 100 words. Take this opportunity to make sure that the message really comes across and share a catchy title!
STEP 2
Plan!
This does not have to take a long time, but it is a good idea to think about the best way to create something with a strong message and that showcases your creativity and skill.
STEP 3
Create!
Don’t worry about having the best materials or technology! Use whatever you have! Use your phone to film yourself or a pencil to draw! Seriously! Keep it simple 😊
STEP 4
Submit!
Once you have your art and description ready, send us your entry by July 29th 2023 at 1point8.org/art-for-well-being. Keep an eye out on our website for info on selections and finalists in the lead up to the GFA and follow up on social media (@1point8billion)
